vinyl wallpaper is pretty water resistant but the real trick is the seams and the glue. Moisture gets in there and causes it to pull up and peel. Is your plan to use it right in the shower? It might not be a great idea long term. Normal Walls aren’t so bad. Does your room have a fan to pull out moisture?
You can get solid vinyl wallpaper and it is as close to water proof as you can get. My parents had it installed in their bathrooms and it has held up very well. In their case, it is tile around the tub up to 6 feet and top is wallpaper and the rest of the walls.
There are vinyl papers that are best for the bathroom, but if it's a room where there's a lot of steam or showers, even that may give you an issue. It's also really important to have an experienced paper hanger who preps the wall, uses the proper adhesive and makes sure the seams are tight.
Waterproof no; water resistant, to a degree. Vinyl paper is probably what you're looking for but in a bathroom, make sure the room is well vented if it's used for showering or there's lots of steam/moisture.
