BEFORE
DIY Southwestern Style Dresser
I have been wanting to use painters tape to create a design on a dresser for awhile now! But this is my first š I thought it would be a lot more time consuming, but it came very naturally and was quite simple. Itās definitely what I would call abstract furniture art.
The sanding process was quite easy which was a nice change! The frame only needed a scuff up since I was planning on painting the frame.
To get to that natural wood didnāt take much, just your regular sanding job, no veneer, just old stain over top !
Here is the process of getting the thin painters tape look! If you donāt go into something with high expectations, you surprise yourself! Iām happy with how the patterns turned out on the drawers. I know this style might not be for everyone, but it will attract the right person.
Prime time - I used zinsser shellac based primer 2 coats. I prefer to buy dollar-store paint brushes for priming, because itās impossible to wash out, so I just toss it once Iām done! - 1.25$
I used Rocky Mountain country chic chalk paint 3 coats! I hand painted and used a roller
I sealed it with dixiebelles best black wax to give it the definition and layered look.
I added new hardware as well! I think the gold ha does bring out the drawer art! I stained the drawers with a minwax early American.
As you can see I did a mild distressing with a fine course sand block.

Love it! Being in Colorado, I would be tempted to do design in reverse on lower portion of the drawers, they would look like mountains! ā° š ( hereās yours turned upside down! š)

That would look super cool!
Have a question about this project?
This is exactly what Iāve been looking for and thankfully, you have posted this tutorial! I love the colors you chose and goes perfectly with my bedroom design. I need to start by getting my supplies in order and after I finish Iāll send a photo to you. I have an a-frame piece of furniture. A neighbor was getting rid of it so I happily hauled it home! I had all sorts of ideas but before the labor iād like to get any suggestions from talented people like yourself. May I post a photo of it for you or should I post it for everyone to view? Thank you so much for posting your beautiful furniture piece.
