I wanted a nice sized Gingerbread man for outdoors for Christmas and my very nice husband ended up cutting the wood to make me three of them!

Sketch the outline

After another project there were leftover scraps of outdoor plywood siding which is how we determined the size of these gingerbread men. The other side is exterior siding so on the plywood side we sketched out what we thought a gingerbread man should look like. It took several attempts lol.

Cut them out

After the first one was cut out with a jigsaw we used it as a template to draw the other two.

Paint and Staple

Luckily I had bought a marked down gallon of mistint brown paint for $5 during the summer.

After painting it brown and letting it dry (I really hate waiting for paint to dry lol) we worked together to hold some vinyl clothesline in place and staple it onto the gingerbread men.

We outlined them, gave them some squiggles, and a smile. Kinda looks like frosting, right?!

Create eyes

Using clear water bottle caps I made dark brown fingerprints on the plastic lids and let them dry.

Then I filled the inside of the caps with caulking and gently pressed them in place.

"Candy" Buttons

Cut an ornament in half with a dremel, hacksaw, or bandsaw.

Caulk it

The top ornament half you see I applied caulk along the edge and pressed it in place then added more around the edge. The bottom ornament half you see I then smoothed it with my finger so it looked like frosting holding a candy in place. I did that to all of them.

We probably used $7 worth of materials for each Gingerbread man and made three.

We just leaned them where we wanted them but you could easily attach a stand to the back if needed.

I think they're pretty adorable!

Instead of the vinyl clothesline, could you just use the caulk to outline the gingerbread? I hate staple guns!!!

Is that pool noodle garland on your fence? Love both ideas and the gingerbread men are adorable

Yes it is. We made garland and hanging ornaments for the trees. Hard part was finding the pool noodles in November/December time frame.

Adorable! Maybe use a gorilla glue or fast tack waterproof glue for the mouth rather than staples for a cleaner look...But this is so darn cute!
