Cleaning a glue gun mostly comes down to removing glue and debris that has built up on the gun. Foil will take off most of this glue. However, you can also try acetone to remove glue and debris. Similarly, it can help to keep the glue gun clean after each use by wiping the tip off with a dryer sheet.
Hi Dawn, I clean mine with it is warm. I plug it in and let it get really hot and then unplug. Once it starts to cool down I take a butter knife and remove any glue stuck to the end.
Hi! I always keep aluminum foil under my gluing projects. When I'm done, I wipe the nose of the glue gun on the foil. Pull any residue off when it cools. Already have buildup? Wear a heat resistant glove, warm it up, and clean it off with steel wool. Stay safe!
Hello. While the glue gun is warm I eat the best opportunity to try to clean it up. Perhaps using a pot holder and some aluminum foil you can scrape away some of the excess glue debris
When my glue gun is hot is when I can get some of the old yucky glue that is all over it. I have some heat resistant gloves that I use to try and peel off all of that old and sometimes burned glue.
Hi Dawn: I turn mine on and when it gets hot, I use a cloth to wipe it down and straight pins and a metal fingernail file to get the melted glue from around the areas the cloth doesn't get. Then I unplug it, let it get cold and then wash it with a damp cloth.

I use a pin or a needle when it starts to cool down, just pick it off.

In my personal opinion it is the quality of the glue. A better quality glue sticks will not make as much mess as the cheap ones.
I usually give a quick wipe when it’s warm.

You can get it hot so the tip can be wiped off with a rag. Be careful it will be hot.
