Installing new backs in my bookshelf?

Hi Tae, run the electrical cords up through the shelving by drilling holes large enough for the end of the cords can be placed in the current horizontal sections at the very back of the inside of the bookcase. You can use masking tape, etc. to hold the cords in place. Then d cut out pieces to fit into the back between each shelf from cardboard or fiberboard. Cover these pieces with either paint, wall paper, or whatever design pleses you and simply "wedge" them into the bookcas in front of the cords.

You can cut wood (or even foam core boards) to fit the back of the shelves and then use small squares of wood to anchor the fake backs away from the back to leave room to hide those cords. You can use wallpaper or fabric on those "faux backs"

I would cover thin wood (luan) with scrapbook paper or wallpaper to put on the back of the shelves. Use a spacer to have room for your cords to run behind them. You could also paint or stencil a pattern on the wood.

Hi Tae, Unfortunately without being able to get to the back it will be difficult to replace them. You could paint the back though without removing them. You could tape off the side edges, remove the shelves and paint the back to give it a new look.

Is there any room at all between the bookcase and the wall? Is there anyway you can make even a 1/2 inch to work with?

Seems like the easiest thing would be to turn the cord along the back divider and use command hooks to loop or hang the cords.

Hi! One summer day, I decided I hated the backs of my bookcases, so I went to the dollar store, bought some foam board and pretty wrapping paper. All you'll need is a utility knife or scissors for the foam board. Be sure to cut them so they are snug, and they will hold themselves in place. I used my hot glue gun to attach the paper, but, if I'd thought to get double sided tape that would have worked really well. Just wrap them like a package and you can hide anything you want behind them. Stay safe!

Hi Tae. Take everything off the shelves so that you have access to the back. You can paint, wallpaper, or stencil each back part individually. Then replace your items. Drill a hole thru the back of the bookshelf. Since it is a bookshelf, could you hollow out a book or two to house the majority of your cords? Leave a short amount of the cords to pass thru the hole you drilled out in the back so that they can be plugged in.

A nice decoupage or wallpaper will work great. Cut the paper to size first then add the glue to the back then add the paper.

You could cover foam board with fabric, wrapping paper, contact paper, wall paper..., cut out the shape of the back of the bookcase and just put it in there. The cords will not show.

Decorate boards or cardboard and place them where you want them.

It would be a lot more work but you could cut pieces of cardboard and cover those before inserting into each individual shelf. That would be much more complicated but this would work if you absolutely couldn't move the bookshelf.

Are these built in bookcases and you're running power up through them? Just make sure the cords are in pristine condition. Measure the height and width of the area then cut a piece of wood to fit. Add a block to the back as a spacer then finish the front anyway you'd like.

You could run the cords down the inside corner and paint them the same color as the bookshelf. They will be hardly noticeable once you fill the shelves

Measure the inside have a piece of material or plywood cut to where you just slide it in and out as needed where it's snug but not secured in for designs for the bookshelf you can probably use rapping paper during Christmas time, and easily change the shelf through out the year
