Rolling Pin Christmas DIY
Old rolling pins are inexpensive and plentiful at the thrift store. By adding a few vintage letters and some other embellishments, you can create a fun Christmas decor accent to gift or keep yourself. Get out your glue gun!
Gather your supplies: an old rolling pin, an old cookie cutter, some old game piece letters and some seasonal trims. Old buttons, sequins, rickrack. You'll also want some cute ribbon to tie on the handles, thinner ribbon to hang with, and some pieces of faux evergreens. Patterned scrapbook paper is optional. Tools you'll need: scissors, pencil and a hot melt glue gun.
Before you begin, tie a thinner ribbon around one handle and knot to give yourself a way to hang your creation.
This is optional, but I thought the cookie cutter would look cuter if it had some patterned paper inside. The easiest way to do this is to trace around the cookie cutter and then tape it to the inside. If you can figure out a better way to do this, let me know!
Start gluing your elements to the rolling pin, beginning with the largest pieces. I glued the cookie cutter at the bottom and glued faux cedar pieces to the top. You could also use bindwire to attach the greens to the top.
Glue game board letters to the rolling pin, along with any other fun embellishments you have. Tie ribbon knots to the handles. Finish by getting rid of all your glue strings with a hair drier.
While I was at it, I added some of the same letters and bits to a red painted scrablle board.
Now you've got a cute, repurposed vintage Christmas decor piece to hang in your kitchen or gift to a baker friend! And you can have a fun little sign to set on your windowsill for the season, too!
