Giant Wall Christmas Baubles
I don't know about you, but we are swimming in a see of cardboard from all the families on-line Christmas shopping this year. I have used some of the cardboard to make a fun Christmas display for my mantle before (see here). This time I thought I'd make a fun giant decoration for my wall with a retro feel.
Large cardboard boxes are best for this craft.
Flatten them out so that you end up with large sheets of cardboard.
Find a large round item such as a tray and draw around it on the cardboard.
Then to make the bauble a retro shape like those old Mid-Century Shiny-Brite tear drop, add a point to the base of the circle. Also, draw a hanging cap to the top.
Cut out this teardrop cardboard ornament.
Paint it white with mat water based paint, I just used left over wall paint.
Then draw around a smaller plate in the center of the ornament.
In the center to make the bauble look like those old dimpled one draw segments like you see on an orange. Add masking tape to make stripes.
Paint the top grey.
Paint the center yellow in 2 shades (see the blog at the end for more photos and details. Paint the rest red and then remove the masking tape.
I ended up make three of these giant baubles from the one box. They are very light and can simply be hung on ribbon held in place with a thumb tack.
They certainly give the hallway a very Christmassy look. They also go with the other Mid-Century modern giant Christmas wall decoration I made from a wooden table top (see here).
