Kaleidoscope Star Christmas Ornament
You can’t have too many Christmas ornaments decorating your house! Especially if they’re as unique and creative as this one.
Kaleidoscope ornaments step up the decorating game a bit though, so this one should be a must-have for all sewing enthusiasts who love spreading that holiday spirit!
It’s surprisingly easy to make as well! Here is a quick explanation how to make one yourself.
Prepare the pattern and cut the fabric
Download our free quilted ornament pattern here and print it out at 100% size, on a US letter paper. Cut out the excess paper and your pattern will be ready for use.
Use the pattern as a guide to cut out the fabric. You will need eighth pieces of main fabric and also eighth pieces of fusible interfacing.
Join the fabric and interfacing
Apply the interfacing to each piece of the main fabric. The interfacing should go onto the wrong side.
Make a kite shape
You will do this for all pieces of fabric. Find the center of the piece by folding the fabric diagonally twice and mark it. Fold each corner to the spot in the center. Press with your iron.
Fold the top corners to the middle and press.

Topstitch the pieces
Keep the fabric right side up. Start stitching at the top corner and go towards the left, until you go all around. Do for all fabric pieces.
Assemble the ornament
Put a piece of fabric onto your workspace with its long tip facing up. Place another kite on top of it so that the short tips align and the unstitched edge is aligned with the center. Stitch everything together.
Put another kite on top of the fabric, aligning its raw edge with the center of the previous piece. Topstitch along the middle to the point. Then go across the kite to the next point.
Repeat with all the remaining pieces. When you get to the last one, make sure to slip it under the first one.

Finish the star
Add the loop as a finishing touch.
Fold a four-inch-long ribbon so that its short edges align. Sew it or glue it to the star and you’re done!
