What color to paint walls when you have blonde maple cabinet?

My kitchen cabinet are blonde maple (color)and tile tan or light beige. They are 18 years old cabinet in great condition. I want to paint the kitchen and living room in the white color family but I don't want the cabinet (blonde maple)to over power the entire space. I thought of painting the cabinet white, but If I do a bad job. I cant afford new cabinet.

We just moved into a house with maple cabinets that are stained what I would call nutmeg. But the 6 panel doors and trim are a natural/clear maple so quite light. When we bought the house the main color was a medium tan and you couldn't even see the beautiful wood, so we chose "Summer White" by Sherwin Williams and it turned out fabulously! It brightened the whole home and now the wood stands out. We are very pleased.
