The terrace needs some tile but I am thinking about the view basically. Any idea would be appreciated.

Hi Loren, could you paint the floor a nice bright colour? I am not sure if you are allowed where you live but that would help. You could also add a little chair and maybe a small rug (one that can go outdoors).

Tall plants for starters to add privacy. It there isn't enough room for standing plants in front of the railing try railing planters with plants that trail downward. Hang a stained glass panel or two from the top that still allows you to look out but adds beauty and privacy.

Hello. There are several directions to go depending upon your aesthetic and budget.

Indoor outdoor carpeting, planters with either faux or real plants and a bistro set might make the terrace look very inviting. Some people also like wind chimes or other decor as well.

Not knowing if your community has restrictions some folks even use curtains for privacy.

  • An outdoor rug would be nice on the floor and add some plants - tall or ones that climb. If you need to block sun, hang a bamboo shade that can be rolled up and down.

Is it the view FROM the terrace or from the interior? If it's from the inside looking out, you've got plenty to work with. Even with a gauzy curtain over the sliding doors, you could always add window clings to the glass. These come in a wide variety of designs, many with just a frosted motif that will soften the view. Best of all, they're not too expensive and you can easily remove them with no harm to the glass.

Actually it’s the view from. It’s like a large piece of land with some trees that separates a parking lot and the next building.

Hi there, some hanging plants would be nice at the edge of the terrace above the railing, that would help give a little privacy as well. If you like cozy lighting you could use the railing to add LED rope lights.

  • Janice Janice on Dec 16, 2020

Lots of potted plants of different heights would help block the parking lot view. Even a trough of dirt to plant some vining plants in would help to block also. and give a abit of privacy to you while on the terrace.

    Hello Loren,

Use a Veranda Awning on your railings to cut out the traffic. comes in weatherproof fabric or Artificial foliage (greens or with Flowers) Or just wind fabric or ? in between the rails. You could always add a Full or Half height Net curtain, or maybe a Voile. There are some super patterns out there!

If you add a lot of plants or even shades it will distort your view - but if you want to make your patio area more inviting you could add large potted plants or flowers

Weave plastic strips in and out of the railing, add a roll up bamboo or plastic shade to the top, a pretty outdoor rug and a chair or 2.

I have neighbors who took some semi clear acrylic panels from lowes and enclosed their patio with them. They then draped a fishing net over the panels so what they looked at from the inside didn't look tacky.

Some rope lighting was added and that further softened the look.

You could add some pops of color with plants.

I don't see any seating in your pic. You could bring color in with that also (and color in throw pillows)

To further soften the area an outdoor area rug would look good and provide a soft surface to walk on.

I have seen movable partion panels on amazon. Perhaps you could be some ideas by looking at this:

If you hate the view, I've seen plenty of renter's ingenuity in putting up wood/bamboo screens from top to bottom, and then having tall plants on the deck.

Hi Loren, how about a little cafe table and 2 chairs, you could put an outdoor carpet out there and some faux vines on the rails. Or wicker love seat with some nice cushions and some plants

A nice outdoor rug, with a bistro set would look perfect. Kirklands and At Home have some really nice sets. I would get an iron one with pretty pillows. A nice tall plant in the corner and it would look great

  • Kmdreamer Kmdreamer on Dec 17, 2020

I would defiantly put some planter boxes with colorful plants on the railing.maybe a pretty tree in the corner. To

Hi Loren. Potted plants and hanging plants would distort the view. Put a couple lavender plants in the pots. They smell great and they keep mosquitoes away. To make the terrace look nice add a couple comfortable chairs and a table. Rope lights would be nice too. Then put a couple lanterns on the table. Place candles in them. Good luck Loren. Happy Holidays.

Do you own the unit or are you renting?

Do you want ideas on how to temporarily or permanently improve the appearance of the terrace?

    • 17335038 17335038 on Dec 18, 2020

Since you can not change the view that you see when looking through the railing, then my suggestion is block off some of the view from the terrance so that your eye does not look outward or through the present railings as much.

One item that will give more privacy and add attractiveness are privacy screens. Here are some examples:

Add a pretty outdoor rub, make sure it secure with something like gorilla or alien

tape. Plants are always a nice touch, perhaps invest in a realistic artificial one if you don't have a good track record (I don't) with them. Lights are always nice, maybe the curtain twinkle lights which would soften the view and add a nice touch at night.

If the weather is nice what about a plant wall.

I think you have a great area to work with. A nice, outdoor rug will do that space wonders. Some plants, greenery, a table and a couple chairs would make this a fun, relaxing and inviting space. There are lots of ideas here for you:

  • I would just add a bunch of your own tropical plants on the balcony with a little table and chairs

  • Add some outdoor furniture and some colourful plants.

I just had another thought. What about painting the door on the right? I’m thinking a tropical color.

    Hi

I think you are making it too busy. Use a fruitless grapevine at the top of terrace run it on a wire or chain the vine is hardy and can be cut back hard if needed.it is thick and will give you a great hit of green without taking terrace space. Instead of table and chairs I would use the shelf tables that sit over the rail and to taller chairs. If using space for a party the vine along will make it inviting and the shelf table can be removed if needed leave the floor it will look nice with the green added.happy decorating
