You can cover it with burlap for a farmhouse look or if modern is your style you can use linen.

I have used spray adhesive and material. Another prion is to spray paint.
I've used wallpaper and of course spray paint!
They sell sheet of lampshade styrene on Amazon, it's fireproof and make for the job.
