We love the look of terrazzo and decided to attempt to DIY it! Here is how we made a terrazzo side table using concrete! See more on this DIY project and other fun DIYs on our blog.

Start with tile of your choice. Glass or stone will work. Smash it with a hammer to break it up. I first put it in a ziplock bag, then put that bag in a second bag. Wrap it in a towel. Then bang the crap out of it. Repeat until you are happy with the breakage. You want a few larger chunks but to lose the square look. The bigger your tabletop, the bigger you can get away with the pieces being.

Assemble a base. You can use the base of an existing stool or side table to be easy. We built this one out of wood.

We used the lip of a 10 gallon bucket as our mold. Hot glue that to a piece of laminate or plastic. Place your base upside down in the mold. Place your chunks of glass or tile good side down in the mold.

Mix concrete and pour it into the mold until full. Vibrate out the bubbles with a sander. The best way to understand this is to watch the linked YouTube video.

Once it is dried, flip it up and off the mold. You will need to sand it to expose more of the tile and clean up the edges.

I coated the whole table with epoxy for a high gloss look.

Enjoy your custom terrazzo table!

Use contact paper on inside of mold... sticky side up with glass on it. You cut contact paper to I/d of mold then place on glass. Make sure you glass is stuck to contact paper. This will stop glass from moving and becoming buried once concrete is put in mold
