Hello everyone, I'm Cindy and blog at Cloches & Lavender where I share DIY's, crafts, upcycling with chalk paint and decorating ideas. I hope you will come and visit my blog and take a look at projects I have done and get inspired.

Today I am sharing a quick and fun project from a thrift store mirror. I needed a small mirror in my back hall and I knew could turn this $10 dollar mirror into a piece to work in our French Country cottage.

First, I removed the mirror. The mirror has imperfections that I love and that is what drew me to this piece.

Next, we had an extra piece of wood from a leftover project and my handyman, my husband, attached it to the frame.

I'm an honest blogger, this girl doesn't use power tools. I have a fear of them for some reason. Give me a power screwdriver and I'm good but nail guns and saws not so much.

Next, I had an applique leftover from another project and cut it in three sections. This added a touch of French to the wood. I glued it it place with wood glue.

The glue is dry and this piece is ready for paint. I painted the piece in Jolie Swedish grey. This is a very versatile color and works with many different wall colors.

Now that this applique is painted it is French perfection.

Next, I used ASCP clear wax mixed with Maison Blanche dark wax.

Mixing the dark wax and clear wax together is important because it gives you the ability to achieve the look you want. If dark wax is applied alone it tends to be overpowering and isn't able to be moved around.

When I wax pieces I generally use stencil brushes. Stencil brushes are smaller and allow you to get the wax in the spot you want. Adding wax small bits at a time is the way to go.

I also wanted to mention, when using wax it's important to rub the wax into your project. This is why it's best to do small sections at a time.

Hello,

Might it not have looked even better if you had shaped the timber to reflect the shape of the Applique?
