Window?

The window is very long, but I don't know how tall it is. Here is an insulation kit, a roll on that can go to 200", yet 62" tall. I don't know if that would work for you:

An alternative is apply bubble wrap to the window, just moisten the glass and spread it over your window.

Thinking further, is there a possibilty of thermal drapes, we bought ours at Walmart for a patio door and they are great, they keep out cold and sun.

Duck makes a window insulation kit that is easy to use. It's a plastic film that goes over the window and is sealed with a blow dryer. They are available at Walmart, hardware, and home improvement stores.

a thick curtain drawn at night will help and pull it back in the morning, especially on sunny days. Check the sealing around the edges. More caulking around the frame might help.

I've heard that bubble wrap does work wonders but I've had experience using the window kits and they work really well too. Besides that heavy drapes over the window will help too. Is it the window edges that are putting off the most cold? You could consider adding more caulking - that does get old and can fail over time.

You can add plastic to the window in cold weather. I have applied bubble wrap to glass for extra insulation by just wetting the window. It is held in place by static. Then remove in the spring when it warms up.

You could have Thermal Foil applied to your Windows, (My neighbour has it) Man can fit it in a Hour or so! There are specialised Companies that do it!

You can add some tinted window film.

You can buy blackout insulating fabric at JoAnns. Make sure you use a 50% off coupon. Only needs to be hemmed on the top where you are going to put your rod. Use Command hooks on the inside of the frame and electric conduit for the rod. conduit is cheap like $5. Then you can put another rod on the outside of the window with pretty curtains. Ikea has some very inexpensive curtains or if you sew buy a fabric that goes with you kitchen. Use the same process of Command hooks and conduit. The conduit can be spray painted, silver or oil rubbed bronze. Both curtains can be pushed to the side when you want more light. I have this setup in my bedroom, keeps the room nice and warm and dark is good for sleeping late.

Are you located in the UK or in the USA?

Does the area where you live rain a great deal in the winter, or is it damp?

If so, then putting the plastic film over the windows will just be inviting further problems with window rot and mold.

I agree with those who have suggested the plastic with the hairdryer for a quick and effective fix. We've used it and it works, plus it really isn't labor intensive and very straightforward. Good luck!
