How to Make a Wooden Footrest
To improve posture, to improve circulation or simply to be able to work with a little more comfort. If you are one of those people who spends many hours in front of the computer, making yourself a wooden footrest like this one will come in handy. It is covered by carpet to make it soft!

1. Cut the pieces of wood
This homemade footrest is made up of four pieces of wood and a piece of carpet on top to make it more comfortable – it is always appreciated to put your feet on something soft and not directly on the wood.
Start by marking the four pieces of wood with the help of a pencil and a ruler and cut with a jigsaw. The most important part is the wooden sides, which have to be the same: they have a slight slope, a hole to fit a crossbar that the one and two stops so that the surface does not slip. You can download the template that we have used. In addition to these two sides, you will have to create the crossbar that joins them with a square wooden slat and the surface to put the feet, on which the carpet goes. Be careful with the images! When you’re done, sand all the pieces.
2. Cut and glue the carpet
Once you have created the structure, measure the wood surface of the top and cut a piece of carpet the same size with a utility knife. When you have it, glue the carpet to the wood with the help of a specific glue. We have used Ceys’ carpet glue: clean the surfaces to be glued well -the wood and the back of the carpet- and apply with a notched spatula on the surface that will serve as a support and let it dry for about 15 or 20 minutes. As time passes, press the carpet onto the wood, pressing hard from the center to the sides.
3. Assemble the structure
Once you have fixed the carpet to the wood, it is time to assemble the structure to shape your footrest. Fit the square wooden strip over the holes on the sides and lay the piece to which you have glued the carpet on top. Ready!
We do not fix the pieces together to be able to disassemble them at will, but, if you prefer, you can join the different pieces with a little white glue.

This is a great idea but I think I’d put something around the edges of the carpet so it doesn’t fray everywhere. A heavy duty tape would work.

Yes, those raw edges are going to fray and unravel like crazy. I would suggest using softer backed carpet that can be wrapped around the edges, then stapled, or rubber-backed carpet that does not fray in the same way the jute-backed carpet does.
