DIY Storage Baskets

These storage baskets are large, sturdy, and pretty. Plus, they cost half the price of similar-sized store-bought boxes!

I started by making all the cuts for the frame of the boxes. Equations for sizing your box to the space available can be found in the full blog post.

Then I painted the front pieces with chalkboard paint. I used my table saw to cut the plywood, but you can have this cut at your home improvement store as well!

To assemble the boxes, I started by assembling the front frames. I used glue and brad nails to attach the pieces together. Plywood will also attach to these frames, so I didn't feel the need to use screws.

Then I assembled the main frame, once again with wood glue and brad nails. Pocket hole screws would make things stronger, but I took a gamble that the plywood base would be enough reinforcement to secure the box.

It's been about five months since I built the boxes. They're full of clothes (and sometimes a cat) and used daily, and have held up fine..

Once the main frame was assembled, I secured the bottom piece of plywood to the base of the frame with wood glue and brad nails.

While the frame was drying, I used a handy chalk transfer method to paint labels on the front of boxes. I do not have nice handwriting, so the chalk transfer method was crucial for getting pretty labels. Check out the full post on that if you too struggle to make pretty signs.

Once I finished painting the fronts, I attached the fronts and sides to the piece, once again with wood glue and brad nails. Then the boxes were done!

I love how the baskets turned out - to be honest, they exceeded my expectations!

Great project! Are those under the bed? Do you have something to protect the floor? Maybe wheels to pull out the box for heavy items? How much weight can they hold?

This quote says you've used Hometalk as a tool to drive financial traffic to your own site: "Equations for sizing your box to the space available can be found in the full blog post."
