How to make valances for blinds?

You can add a simple valance by hemming the material and adding a large pocket for a rod at the top. However, I have found that I can purchase valances from Amazon or JCPenney for less money than I can purchase the material.

Measure the width and use a 1 x 3 piece of wood with 2 smaller ones on the side the depth of how far out the valance should be. Screw the two side pieces to the long front. Screw the 3 pieces you now have attached together to the sides of the window frame. You can staple material to them before or after you hang. You can add some batting to the material to make them puffy. You can paint them. You can add prepasted wall paper to them.

Since you are renting, get your landlord's permission in writing on the lease, initialed by the both of you. They may give your verbal permission, don't take the bait, it may come back to bite you at the end of the lease.

Easy way would be to fix Long Hooks to wall either side of Windows and Thread a pole or Curtain Wire with soft Curtain Fabric Pelmet.

Are you renting the apartment, or do you own it yourself?

If you are renting, then you will not be able to attach any valance permanently to the windows or ones that will damage the wall in any way upon removal without written pre-approval from the unit owner, as others above have noted.

Also, are you asking for valance ideas that require construction, such as with lumber, or ideas that require sewing only?

Hello. I find custom wooden window valance boxes is the most appealing I don’t have the technical skill or tools to do that.

Alternatively -The big box hardware stores they have sheet Styrofoam insulation panels. These panels can be cut up in in customized sizes- hot glued together in that [ shape and covered with fabric or batting and fabric to make window valances.

What you want is a window Cornice. I actually purchased some very fancy molding and put that over a few windows. Used a mitre box and made sides. Painted it in white and I like it better than fabric.

Cheap and easy: buy foam core board & double stick foam tape at dollar store.

Cut the foam core board into the length & height you want.

Then wrap it in gift wrap or wallpaper or thin fabric. If you want it upholstered, then glue batting to the face first.

Double stick tape the completed piece to the header of the blinds.
