I would like to clean up the side. Replace older door but not sure what to do with the steps. I was going to add railings but want a new look. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Depending on code for your area you may not need railings. What I'd suggest would be shrubs along the side of the house - they will make everything more beautiful - especially around the steps.

I would take it all out, put in a nice landing, like a small deck (6-8' ) with side rails, then a wide steps down.

    After that, then landscape.

Agree with the above poster, shrub plantings possibly flowering shrubs might be a very inviting option. Knowing your planting zone or region could help us offer further specific plant species suggestions. Knowing your preference on plant maintenance might be considered as well some shrubs lead frequent trimming vs a dwarf species.

Seems like a good area for a covered deck (unless you already have that in your yard). At least a small pad (love the newer trex materials).

If you had a pergola you could even run some sort of string lighting.

You would want to maximize your privacy so check out these ideas.

Depending on your budget, I would take out the stoop and put in a porch or patio landing. If your budget cannot withstand the cost. I would buy some nice metal railing and put some bushes on the other side of it.

Start with a good power wash. Once that concrete is cleaned of discoloring and bricks are scrubbed up you can decide if you want to coat the whole thing with concrete paint in a uniform color. I would highly recommend putting concrete footers on each side with poles to support railings of some sort. You can easily buy some metal piping to form the railings on each side of the existing concrete stairs. You might get lucky and find existing railings at some type of Re-Store or Goodwill or Salvation Army.

I would also suggest that you paint the concrete at the bottom of the house to a color to match the siding. This will help make it look less like the house is floating on the lot, which will enhance the curb appeal of the property.

    what there,

I would repeat the look of the front of the home or if you have a bigger budget, go for a large Veranda.

Hi Rich, the steps loo to be i good shape, so you could clean them and paint them a solid color, or leave them as is, they will look great once cleaned. You could add some nice railings to them one one or both sides.

Get a concrete contractor to replace the steps. Must have railings. Extend the porch steps towards the corner so you can put 2 chairs and a plant to sit outside. Put a plant in the corner. A screen on the side will give privacy and can be attached to the ground with cement casements for stability.
