How to remove antique hinges when screws are rusted in?
I purchased a door with antique Bommer Spring Hinges, double swing door hardware but cannot remove the screws holding them in place. Any suggestions how to remove them without damaging the door? I'd prefer to keep the hinges intact, but realize that is not possible. Thanks.

Hi! I have found WD40 and some patience usually works. There are also kits and tools for removing screws that are stripped or damaged and they work. Stay safe!
Hi Maureen, here's three ways you can try to remove those rusty screws https://www.bobvila.com/articles/how-to-remove-rusted-screws/ Good luck. I'm sure you'll get them out without damaging the hinges
Wd40 will brake down the rust so they can be removed. I must mention that I have done a few antique restoration and found that some hinges look like screws but the are actually nails with a slot in the head.
Hello Maureen,
Spray the hinges with WD-40 and let it soak for 24 hours. then try. Tighten, then untighten. Best wishes.

WD40 does and excellent job on this kind of situation, but if there is any paint covering the screws, chip it away before applying the WD40. After a good soak (8-24 hours) try to tighten and then untighten, the back and forth motion helps loosen these from their position.
Liquid Wrench penetrating oil is what my farmer grandpas used.
If you decide to drill them out, I'd buy that jig from an auto parts store.
I agree I love Liquid Wrench.
