Now that my pantry is done and stuffed to the gills with food items and cookware, I needed a door. Using 1x4's and a couple of packs of paneling, I was able to come up with a simple door that fit my pantry like a glove! Here is how I did it!

I started out by cutting my 1x4 boards to the appropriate size for the pantry door opening.

Once my boards were cut, I used my pocket hole jig to create holes in the horizontal planks.

Using a clamp to hold the jig in place, the pocket holes are easily created.

Pocket holes- complete!

Looking on the back of the pocket hole screws you can determine what size screw is right for your boards. For my particular boards 1.25" screws were the right fit (1x4 boards actually measure .75" thick x 3.5" wide).

I then assembled the frame of my door. I initially wanted to just have the square frame with vertical slats.

Because of the odd angles on my wall, before the door was completed I wanted to fit my door in place in order to ensure that it completely covered the opening.

After removing the door I decided to add two horizontal slats to the design.

I then added my vertical tongue and groove boards (the same boards that I used for the walls of the pantry) to the door frame. I used a brad nailer, but these boards can easily be attached using a hammer and nails.

After adding a handle that matched my kitchen cabinet hardware, this door was DONE!

Suggested materials:
  • Tongue and groove planks   (Lowes)
  • 1x4x8 boards   (Lowes)

You did an amazing job, Nicole...!!! Bravo..!!! However, may I ask....(because it's killing me..!!!) Are you planning on doing anything with the back of the door, to utilize that empty space...?? Such as adding shelving or maybe wire racks to hold plastic wrap, sandwich bags etc... or a spice rack or anything of the sort...???

Again... you did an amazing job and made it look SO EASY, in the process, no less...!!!!

Enjoy, the fruits of your labor...!!! 👍💯🏠🎯😊

Amazing job! It's really nice when you can do something that is customized just for your space. My next purchase needs to be one of those drill jigs. Thanks for the inspiration.
