Today I’m sharing a my DIY fake dirt. This is a very simple fast DIY with great results.

Spring will be here before you know it and making this DIY fake dirt is great timing.

As a result of making a Lavender plant for a DIY Knockoff Challenge last year I have made this before. I knew when I made this I would definitely use it again given the chance.

I ordered a faux Lavender plant online and once I received it I was not happy with the dirt. Hence, the picture below shows the dirt appearing as though there are fingerprints in the dirt. A bit picky, maybe, however, I expect when I order a piece, it look professional. In this case it did not.

By the way, this was not able to be returned, so instead of stewing, I took matters into my own hands and made my DIY fake dirt.

Let’s Begin Making the Fake Dirt Using the Supplies Listed

Items Needed:

  • Non clumping kitty litter
  • Elmer’s glue
  • Black craft paint
  • Brown craft paint
  • Wooden stick or spoon
  • Paper bowl
  • Water

Measurements were not specifically listed when I found this recipe online however, trust what I suggest, it works like a charm.

To begin with, this DIY is extremely easy and takes minutes.

First, add your non clumping kitty litter to your paper bowl. Next, add your Elmer’s glue, brown paint , a small amount of black paint and a bit of water.

Next, using your wooden stick or spoon mix the ingredients together.

As a rule, your combination should be wet to spread around the base of your plant.

Adding the Dirt to Improve the look of Your Faux PlantFor the most part, spreading the mixture it’s easiest to use your fingers.

After I begin decorating this plant will be in a different spot.

Lastly, let the mixture dry well and you have DIY fake dirt.

I hope you think about giving this a try it adds so much of a realistic look to fake plants and literally take minutes to create.
