Mason Jar Lid Bird Feeder
How to make a simple bird feeder with a canning jar ring. This is a cute product for kids, but it's always good for adults. Hang these in your yard to feed the wild birds.
You will need:
- 2 cups bird seed
- 1 to 1 1/2 cups boiling water
- 1 packet unflavored gelatin
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/2 cup flour
- 3 tablespoons corn syrup
- 6 wide mouth mason jar rings
- non toxic acrylic paint
Start by painting the rings with two coats of paint. Let dry for an hour between coats. Then seal with two coats of Mod Podge and let dry for a day before proceeding.
Cut twine into 18 inch sections. Tie around the rings to use to hang from trees.
Combine the bird seed and flour in a large bowl and set aside. In a smaller bowl, mix the gelatin and 1 cup of hot water according to the package directions. Add the peanut butter and corn syrup and stir until well blended. Add the liquid mixture to the dry mixture. Stir until well combined. It should feel like thick sand. You can add more hot water if needed.
Spoon the mixture into the mason jars. Use the back of a spoon or a cup to press the bird seed into the rings.
Let the bird seed set up overnight. Then hang in a tree and enjoy!
