Art Deco Dresser in a Whole New Light
My client inherited this dresser from her great grandmother and wanted to be able to use it and perhaps later on use it in her nursery.
Structurally it was solid. But had some veneer damage and just needed to be sanded and given a new finish. She wanted a modern clean look, so we went with white and wood look.
I started sanding with my electric sander grit 120/220/320.
Once the drawers, top and sides were sanded I applied this penetrating stain.
Look at that gorgeous wood grain!
I used frogtape to make sure I didn't paint the wood. I applied 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of valspar furniture and cabinet paint in white.
As I mentioned the drawers had veneer damage so I used wood filler to fix that. It still didn't quite match so I decided to paint a stripe on the top and bottom of each drawer to cover the filler.
I applied polycrilyc clear coat on top of the wood surfaces. And spray painted the hardware gold to give it new life. And just like that this dresd looks like a million bucks now. If you like this transformation and like to see more in real-time follow me on Instagram @andreapalmai.

LOL! I got a hint of what gold paint would have looked like from the frog tape! Rather than the white you used to hide the damage, I think gold stripes would bring it up the scale of "jazz factor". Nice job
