Hi Bruce, you will need remove the wall covering on either the inside of the outside. (The inside would probably be a lot easier etc.) then you can fill the gaps between and around the door between the studs with fiberglass or spray foam.

I'm having a bit of difficulty imagining the area with a deck door. In general, weatherstripping is how people close in the gaps around doors.
However, we added reflectix under our house in the double pattern which added a great deal of insulation to the floors. So you might be able to use it on the back side of the door as well.

Are you looking to attach some weatherstripping to it or fill the walls with insulation? You can do an after market spray in foam or insulation which would require some holes. Or weatherstripping is easy to attach.
