You will find as many answers to this as there are people on this forum. Everyone will pick what "they" like. You need to pick YOUR favorite. Get color swatches from the paint store and tape a strip of blues or greens or whatever you like the the wall and stand back and look at it for a few days. You can also buy sample paints for a few dollars and paint a large piece of paper with it and hang up and stand back to see if you like it. That way you won't have to repaint the area, just throw the paper away.

This is an answer that you just can't get unless you are in the space and can see the surrounding area. I would suggest finding an inspiration piece to help guide your color choice. That could be artwork, fabric, anything you like. Good luck with the process;)

Hi Dakota, That's a big question, and you'll get a million different answers, so it's best if you stay true to what you love.

I always start any room makeover with something that I love for inspiration, and that's where I take my color cues from. It can be a pillow, curtains, a rug, a piece of art, a throw etc. It can be anything that you love and will put in the room.

If you start with something that already has a color combo that you love, then you can pull a color from that for the walls. Or a tint of that color. And then you can sprinkle other colors that are also in that piece around the room to tie everything together.

Having that thing for inspiration focuses you in a specific direction, rather than trying to start from nothing, which can be a little daunting.

    I hope that helps.

  • There are tons of websites that will help you choose a color. Here is a great one: https://www.swcolorid.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiA65iBBhB-EiwAW253W5St4CnGk7IAlMfLVMIGMMiwlW5RIfPyT9azDjROhnijgyWUkiD07BoCqaIQAvD_BwE

Some of them will even let you take a photo of your room and "try the colors on"..have fun!

You are the one who will look at this everyday so go with a color that you like. Don't be trendy just think about which color brings a smile to your face. Please let us know what you decide and good luck!!!

grays are on the way out according to the decorating magazines so your best bet is to go to home depot, lowes or a paint store and look at paint chips- you know more what you like than we do and what would go with your carpet, furniture, etc. you can even buy small sample cans of paint to try on your walls good luck

Do you want another bold color? Or do you want to tone it down? I would get rid of the wood in the middle. Do you have a piece of furniture that you'd like to match the walls with? I'd be able to answer better if I could see the whole room.

Do you have a ColorFul fabric that you love in the room? I find starting with that and pulling colors out of it is a great way to start.

It really depends on what your style is and the colors in the rest of the house. I tend to like the greige and white, but the easiest way would go to the store and look at the paint swatches and see which colors suit your taste. Then take one of the darkest on the swatch and the very lightest. The colors will be in the same paint family and look great. Also the chair rail can be white or any color in between on the swatch.

I would go with a neutral color. Beige, Gray, or Greige are the most popular. Sherwin Williams has a color "sea salt" that is a bit of color but still works with many decors.

  • I would go lighter, especially since your doors are already light. I'd paint under the chair rail a light gray and on top paint it a white that matches the doors.

I'm in love with light blue greys right now. I went through my bold color phase, but now I like the lighter relaxing tones.

What are your bedspreads like? Choose a color out of them.

When you & your parent go to the store to go pick up a bunch of paint chips, bring little sister too. Get lots of doubles of the paint chips you like, so you can tape them together for a bigger paint chip.

Then I cut them out and tape them to the wall and stand far back and squint at it, both day and night.

I write my #1,2 & 3 choices on the back and take them down and look at them again tomorrow.

After I get it narrowed down to two, I go buy the small can paint samples and then paint a section of two different facing walls. Live with the samples a couple of days ad decide if you want to adjust the color samples a bit.

If so, go back to the paint store, with your samples, when they’re not busy and ask the paint person if they would please adjust the color for you on your samples. Sometimes they can and sometimes they can’t-depending how much is left of the samples.

How exciting you get to pick your own paint for your room!

I had a phase where I loved bold colors painted in my house. I've recently realized that the colors have had their time in my home and I might need to reinvent myself with some lighter colors. You and your sister should tape some paint samples onto the wall and see what you both like.
