Guess What I Made Using an Old Vase?

I have another vase experimentation for you that was inspired by 2 vases from Pottery Barn. At a whopping $149.00 and $199.00, I thought I can totally do this myself and avoid paying that price all together, mind you, I would never pay that for a vase anyway.

I shopped my house and started with this vase I have had for many years that was collecting dust since it no longer matches my decor.

I began by painting the vase with gray gesso paint. I love this stuff, the coverage is wonderful for one, and it almost gives it a chalky look to it.

I actually painted this vase with one coat of the gray gesso paint all over.

I continued until I had the entire vase covered with the gray paint.

Then I began taking white gesso paint and creating some character and dimension by dry brushing the white around the vase always going in the same direction.

I started wiping off the paint, and then decided I did not like that look and continued to just dry brush white all over the vase going in the same direction around the vase.

Then I began adding black Rub-N-Buff to the vase for contrast.

I dry brushed the black Rub-N-Buff on with my paint brush here and there, no rhyme or reason. I just go with the flow and see how things progress.

I continued to work around the vase adding subtle hints of black.

Then I applied the black Rub-N-Buff with my finger to the urn handles. I went back to the gray gesso paint and began adding strokes of paint vertically to the vase for even more dimension and character.

Here it is in place on top of our china cabinet.

I added some pine and 3 white roses to the vase for winter.

What do you think? Is it a cross between the two vases from Pottery Barn? This was a free to me project, I already had everything on hand. Gesso paint is typically used on canvas to prime it before you paint. I started using it because it provides an almost concrete look to items. You can find it here. If you prefer white gesso paint, you can find it here. I love both! I use cheap paint brushes for these sorts of projects which you can find here. I have quite an arsenal of crafting supplies that seem to be everywhere. I need a crafting space, can you tell Mr. Vintage this so he can put up a crafting/she-shed for me? Otherwise, the dining room gets quite messy with my projects all over the table.

I do not need anything fancy... LOL. Maybe something like this that I found on Architectural Designs website. As I laugh to myself, it is pretty "fancy pants" if you ask me! I could live with this if I must though.
