I love to make a tiered tray and tiered tray decor!

This tutorial will show you how I made this adorable 2 tiered tray using picture frames from Dollar Tree.

For the Bottom (Larger) Tray

Step 1

  • The first thing I did was take the glass out of the larger frame and placed it on top of the wood.

Step 2

  • I used a pencil and traced the size I needed for the base of the tiered tray.  I was able to get 4 pieces out of these 2 pieces of wood. That is what I needed for the bottom part of the tray.

Step 3

  • I took the wood outside and cut it down using a miter saw.

Step 4

  • I put the gorilla glue in the center of each wood slat and then put hot glue on both sides of the gorilla glue.
  • I placed the slats onto the cardboard back of the frame.

For the Top (Smaller) Tray

Step 5

  • For the top tray, I used 8 large craft sticks and cut them down to fit in the second frame.
  • When cutting the craft sticks make sure you are using something sharp and cut slowly to make sure you don't crack or break the sticks.

Step 6

  • I used the back of a larger frame for the bottom of the trays.
  • I laid the glass on top and traced it with a pencil and then cut it down to size.

Step 7

  • I used clear gorilla glue and hot glue to attach the craft sticks to the backing.
  • I put the gorilla glue in the center of each craft stick and then put hot glue on both sides of the gorilla glue.
  • I then pressed the craft sticks onto the backing.

Step 5

  • While both the top and bottom trays dried I used white chalk spray paint on both frames so they would match in color.

Step 6

  • I let the wood trays dry for 24 hours.
  • I used some Americana Wax to stain both of them.
  • I used a Dollar Tree Makeup brush to apply the stain. I have found that Dollar Trees makeup brushes are great for painting and staining. I usually will pick a few up every trip I make to Dollar Tree.

Step 7

  • For the feet, I used these little square blocks from Dollar Tree and used the same wax to stain them.
  • This was a rather messy process so I would recommend wearing gloves if you don't want to get the wax all over your fingers.

Step 8

  • I again used gorilla glue to attach the feet to all 4 corners of the bottom tray. And left it to dry for about 4 hours.

Step 9

  • For the middle section, I used a small spindle from Lowes and cut it down. I then used the same wax to stain it.

Step 10

  • I found the center of the bottom tray and marked it with a pencil. I also found the center of the top tray.

Step 11

  • To attach the trays together I drilled a small pilot hole in each tray and attached them will screws. One going thru the top of the top tray and another in the bottom of the bottom tray.

You did a beautiful job! This caught my eye because I made something similar with metal pieces (cake tins, candle sticks) that I picked up at yard sales and Goodwill. I made a 3-tier succulent tray that's in my bathroom. Everyone thinks I paid a fortune and truth be told it was maybe $10. Happy crafting!
