If it is a room off the entryway with a door, no problem.

Not at all, as long as the toilet fixture is not visible when coming and going through the entryway door. The door to access the toilet should be discreet, for example, there should be no signs identifying what is behind the door, or indicating the function of the room.

Many home floor plan foyers have what is called a 'powder room' which is just a fancy name for a toilet/WC and a basin.

Agreed a small room with a commode and sink near an exterior door is actually really nice to have. I use my closest bathroom on our main floor a lot in the summers when I get dirty in my garden etc. Its nice not to have to be traipsing dirt upstairs etc. I would suggest though (if you have a window that can be seen from the exterior entrance) to make sure your bathroom door isn't visible from the exterior door. Nothing better than to obviously exit the bathroom to greet someone at the front door lol.

Hi Jmk, A bathroom in the entry area is veryconvenient. I once owned bi-level home with a 1/2 bath in the enry area. It was great because the access to the garage was there and if work was being done in the garage one could use the entry bathroom for quick cleanup. It was adjacent to a coat closet and with the door closed guests were none the wiser.

Do you mean a toilet sitting by the front door or a small bathroom near the front door?

If it's in a small powder room, I think it's fine!

I think it's fine in a small room.

  • Maybe not immediately in your actual entryway unless you’re using it as a planter but in a room next to your entry, it’s fine.
