Wooden floor air vent ?

My advice, do not cover it up. Can you please post a photo? Vents are installed for a reason. Does heat or air conditioning flow from this vent? Or is it a return air vent?

Blocking a vent can be dangerous. Covering the floor registers in your home is potentially dangerous if you cover them when using the heating or cooling system. If you block the vent air will not be able to return to the furnace and you will have a cold or hot room depending on the season. if it is a supply vent then air will not be able to get into the room. The vent in the outside brick wall is to allow air flow in the crawl space. This is to keep it dry and odor free. Prevent moisture buildup and mold. Do not block that one either.

The vent may be for cold air intake. You will need to contact a person or company to take a look at your heating system as the vent may be part of that

We had this same situation and were told it was a hard no. It's bad for the furnace.

No, I wouldn't do that. The Carpet fitter will probably lift it, fit the carpet to suit and then re-fit the grill down.

Again, I’m not sure to what end you’re seeking by covering this. It’s best not to but you should consult an HVAC pro if you’re very set on this.
