A St. Patrick’s Arrangement

I don’t do a lot of decorating for St. Patrick’s day, but I do like to add a little bit of green here and there for the season, particularly when we have some time between Valentine’s Day and Easter. I thought an “L” shaped arrangement would be perfect on one corner of my mantel this year.

If you have been with me since St. Patrick’s Day last year, you might remember me using a pair of my grandaughters’ Irish dance shoes on a wreath. If you didn’t see that, you can see it at: A Unique St. Patrick’s Day Wreath.

I used spring green reindeer moss to fill the dance shoes.

I have never been to Ireland, but I think of it as very earthy and of course green. I thought this wooden pedestal bowl from Kirkland’s was just the thing to elevate the arrangement on my mantel.

I tucked a couple of pieces of styrofoam in the container and ran a couple of pieces waterproof floral tape over the top of the foam. I added a piece of tpe across the end of each end of the tape for a little extra security.

I used just one package of moss to cover the styrofoam.

Greening pins were used to secure the moss to the foam.

It is okay if some of the styrofoam is still showing. Don’t worry about that.

I did use some spring green reindeer moss to fill in some of those bare spots. I had some of it left from filling in the dance shoes.

Using greening pins over the laces from the dance shoes, secure them to the styrofoam so that they hang the way you want to display them as part of your arrangement.

I wanted my shoes hanging, but not touching the mantel.

I wanted to make an “L” shaped arrangement, so I began with branches loosely forming the shape. Additional flowers will support the shape.

Faux bells of Ireland were used to support the shape and I began using pale cream and light green florals to fill in the arrangement.

Just like that, filled in, your arrangement is done! If you would like yours to be a little more St Patrick’s themed, you can add a few shamrock picks to your arrangement.

I hope you see that this is an arrangement you can adapt for any season and style in any colors! For more of my projects come on by  Celebrate & Decorate!

Thank you for sending me the one of yours from last year of your granddaughter's shoes on the wreath. No, I was not on last year with crafts. Boy, I am now! I already have a huge notebook of ideas, have done a few, and plan to do a lot more in the very near future! You did a beautiful job on your arrangement and the wreath! Your Grandfather's Irish eyes are smiling down on you! Brought back memories of my precious Grandfather that I adored! Again thank you for sharing with me!
