My first major DIY project for the 2020 year was painting my kitchen cabinets. I knew it would be a time consuming job, but I had been putting it off for many years.
I loved the maple wood my cabinets were made of, but our builder stained them the wrong color, so I was never really happy with them. So I was determined that this would be the year that I finally loved my kitchen!
Have a question about this project?
I had my cabinets re-done about 8 years ago (mocha) from whitewashed pine! The idiots told us that they could put de-glosser on them then apply sprayed stain and THEN some shiny crap!! Well they now look like speckled brown chickens!! Well, my daughter took one if my bathroom cabinet doors sanded it completely (it had brown still and the white wash came through in places too! NOW WHAT!! Any ideas??? I like the marble look but don’t know where to go from there!!
You can experiment with only sanding down as far as the whitewash & see if you like the total effect. If it’s something you think you will like, try & replicate on the other doors, drawers & cabinet front. If you like the effect, then finish by applying a clear, non yellowing sealer or use a wipe on wax, Good luck!

Is there a way to remove the paint without sanding? Contractors made a mess of my cabinets in my kitchen, and both bathrooms. I have to remove the paint and start over. Please help! Thank You!
Depends on how much a perfectionist you are! If their paint was done properly & the only problem is the color, then I would try painting over it. Use a paint with primer that will help
to adhere to the old paint not being sanded. Use a roller or brush with the new choice of color. You might want to take into consideration that if you didn’t like your new color you could then try sanding & exposing some of the old color below for a worn farmhouse finish look if the colors make sense together!

Did your cabinets already have the hidden Euro hinges? I want to get rid of my ugly visible hinges and replace with the hidden hinges when I have the cabinets redone.
Did you use any type of clear/matted sealer over the new paint?
Looks very nice but more work than I can handle.
