Farm Fencing Cloche

As much as I love the glass cloches, I haven’t found one I like in my budget. Therefore I made a rustic one that will do the trick.

Cloches are so versatile. They are also fun and easy to change up.

I used the sturdier chicken/farm wire from the Tractor store because that was what we had on hand. The classic chicken wire would be much easier to use because it’s not as thick and would be easier to cut. That being said this still wasn’t a difficult project. As long as your snips are sharp and you wear gloves it’s very doable.

I used a large glass jug and measured the circumference of the jug.

I then cut the piece of chicken wire to size.

I wrapped the wire around the jug. This is when you want to put on gloves.

I joined the two open ends by wrapping the wires from one side around the other using needle nose pliers.

At this point you need to make several cuts around the circumference as shown above. This is so you can fold your pieces down to make the dome top.

Fold down two pieces and connect them as you did with your original two sides. Continue folding down the pieces and connect them until you a have your dome formed. As I said earlier regular chicken wire might work better as I had to bend and mold a little with this step.

I connected a curtain hook to the top using floral wire.

I spray painted the piece white.

When the white paint was dry, I dabbed brown paint randomly to give it an aged look.

And that’s it!! Hope you enjoyed this little DIY!!

Am I missing something, but the bottom literally falls off this project which only creates the wire frame. Um, what about the base?

    what is it's purpose?

You didn't mention what you used as the base. Seems like you left the readers of your project hanging! But what is this supposed to be used for? What's its purpose?

A CLOCHE DOESN'T HAVE A BOTTOM. YOU SET IT OVER THINGS YOU WANT TO PROTECT OR "CORRAL"

How creative! I took love cloches' but refuse to spend so much money on one. And it's quite obvious you used a plain wooden plaque that can be readily purchased for the base. I think it's a great way to use up any type of leftover wire whether hardware cloth or chicken wire!
