Once again we are in lockdown in NZ (only for a week this time) I've done the garden and now it's raining so let's use some of the junk I've accumulated and make something

I had a bunch of these seat slats rescued from a skip, maybe teak probably kwila but pretty solid. So cleaned them up on the bench sander

I'm leaving the bevelled edge on them, cut them to length and glued together

Once dry I cut out the circle blank on the bandsaw

Mounted on a backplate in the lathe and turned up the outside

Then turned around and glued on a piece of sacrificial ply so I could turn the inside

There is a sheet of paper between the two to allow easier separation (I remember that from school 50 years ago)

Turned the inside and sanded, you can now see the voids left by using rounded pieces of wood, this was deliberate

Dismounted the bowl from the ply back, using this means that there are no screw holes in the wood

Unblocked all the void holes using a small drill bit as a file/pokey thing and gave it a coat of olive oil to bring out the colour

Don't know what I'll use it for but passed a co of rainy hours while the wife watched her soaps
