For awhile, I've wanted to have a home gym. I really don't like working out in front of others. In addition, I was preparing for shoulder surgery that will require a lot of PT. I have a spare bedroom that really had no use so I decided to convert this space into my home gym. Budget is an issue, as I don't have very much extra to spend on outfitting a gym.

I purchased inexpensive interlocking mats for the floor, and a large screen TV for the wall. This room also doubles as a sleepover room for my grands. I decided that I wasn't going to buy any bulky, expensive equipment. Between workout videos on the TV and resistance bands, I felt I could get an excellent workout and have plenty of room for the kiddos.

I purchased two sets of resistance bands and wanted two areas where they could hook the to the wall. I decided to install the hooks at 4 different heights. After locating the studs, I masked off two floor to ceiling stripes where the wall hooks were to be installed. I painted white inside the tape lines.

I chose to install 4 hooks at each location - ankle height, elbow height, shoulder height, and reach height. I measured and marked the locations and installed with 3" lag screws directly into the studs.

I also wanted to install mirrors in one area of the room. Using lightweight, $7 mirrors from Walmart and 3M heavy duty adhesive hangers, I installed 9 mirrors.

This is the main workout area. The room is 12x12 so there is ample floor space for two to do yoga and video workouts, or...plenty of room for four young grands to build a blanket fort and camp out. Having 2 wall hook areas also allows for two to workout together.

This is the second workout area complete with instructional posters. (hooks are not yet installed on the stripe) several weights and accessories are kept on the console table.

I purchased these two coat hangers at Walmart and spray painted them white. I screwed them into the wall, staggering them to allow the bands to hang properly.

There was a small wall section that was perfect for my scale and mirror. I pulled away some of the mat in that area.

The room far exceeds my expectations. Not only have I saved on equipment, I also do not have to deal with getting it up a flight of stairs or back down when I eventually move. The mirrors can be removed without a trace, as well as the mats from the floor.

I don't feel any guilt when I don't use the room but I absolutely love going in there, turning up good music and stretching in the mornings. I don't dance in public, but I love dancing in here!
