It will eventually corrode through and then you'll be replacing it anyhow.

Use vinegar. Plug just the drain so it can sit. You can also add some baking soda to make a paste and scrub with a brush.
Do you believe it’s hard water deposits from your water supply? A CLR type product might be suggested.

You MIGHT be able to replace the entire drain and it wouldn't be too expensive. If you take it into a hardware store, they could help you.
