This customized TV stand solved two major needs:

  • The need for storage
  • A way to hide tech including wires, cords, cables, and a battery backup

First up: pick up supplies at the Home Depot, order sliding door hardware from Amazon, and order storage boxes from Ikea! With all that in hand, we were ready to start!

Watch the video above!

Note: Many of your questions can be answered by watching the video and/or heading to our blog to see the full tutorial.

The build plan was based on three things: (2) Wall Control panels, (2) Ikea storage bins, and sliding door hardware. All the measurements are based on accommodating these three things. You can download the entire cut list on our website.

The base of the TV stand was built from 2x4s and assembled using pocket holes and screws.

The TV stand will have two adjustable shelves. This Kreg shelf pin jig makes it easy to accurately make the holes. There's a great demonstration in the video on how to use this.

The unit is assembled with pocket holes, brad nails, and wood glue. Here Steph is putting screws into the pocket holes she made. The black things are pocket hole clamps that hold the piece together while putting in the screws.

Two panels of Wall Control metal pegboard are going to organize and store all the tech and control the mess of wires and cords on the backside...

...like this!

We added a face frame to give the unit a professional looking finish. Plus, adding trim covers a lot of mistakes!

Once the unit was finished, it was time to add casters, the sliding door hardware and the newly painted sliding door.

Here it is all finished! The door slides to reveal the Ikea storage boxes on the left.

There are two adjustable shelves on the right.

All the tech is on the backside, hidden out of sight, but it is easily accessible when needed.

There is even a shelf which supports the heavy battery backup.

The painted door adds a pop of color.
