Can you share a photo of the front? Maybe there’s a way to add some paint to the tear to make it less noticeable?
I would put some duct tape on the back of the canvas over the tear. Use some acrylic paint on the front to add to the painting and cover the tear.

Hello. I have patched the rear side of torn stretched canvases with glue and a spare piece of canvas. Canvas paper or even a piece of dropcloth patching might be used. Try to camouflage the painted side best you can.
Try gluing it from the back so that it fills in the crack. Could you add a little paint to the front so that the tear isn’t noticeable?
I would try an adhesive like Aleene's liquid fusion. Put some on thin cardboard and put it on the tear. Then from the front, make look as seamless as possible.
Heres a vid that may help you out.

I would try gluing from the back and touching up the front with a little acrylic paint carefully.
Something I've done in the past is to glue or tape it closed with a patch the same color as the canvas. I've done it from the front and the back depending on how hard it is to match the damaged spot. The trick I think is to make it intentional looking and hide the edges of canvas where you have the damage. For example, glue or tape the edges from the back and then very carefully touch up the canvas edges in the front with the colors that were separated. Make sure the edges are as smooth as possible. Less is more with a project like this, and a very fine point brush with a tiny amount of the paint that's a close match is all you should need. Good luck!
Hello,
Remove the tape you used. Lay the canvas down on it's face with a thick book under the frame and the part that has the tear, to give it a firm base. Replace the old tape with Micropore tape. Do not press to hard and open up the split Start by going across the split rather than up and down (TO SLIGHTLY PULL THE PARTS TOGATHER) rather than press them apart! That should do the trick. You could always tip point colour with acrylic paint if any signs of split on front as Micropore will take colour. That should then be disguised.

Hello, you may want to put a patch on it that is not transparent, maybe a grey or something busy like the painting.
