Rub petroleum jelly on parts you don't want to take up paint and then paint over it, or rub back the unit in places you want to see some wear, or Use Antique wax over your paint! Have fun!
Petroleum jelly is messy. Paint with two coats of chalk paint and scuff edges where there would be normal wear and tear and where fingers might touch. Add TINY bit of antiquing wax with a rag. It spreads pretty far so just a tiny dot or you will have a hard time getting it back off if you add to much. Finger tip on a rag in the wax and just a little on a spot then with clean part of rag spread and rub in the wax.
