I want to move my couch?

I want to relocate our sofa so that it will be facing the wall where it is at right now, move the tv console there and have the chairs on either side of the sofa but then the sofa’s back will be towards the front door. Maybe a narrow accent table behind it will help? I also don’t want to make the traffic flow inconvenient....

  • Try it and see how it works. If you don't like it, you can always move it back. I think the console table behind the sofa would be a great look.

You have a great room to work with and your pictures are helpful. Did you consider switching the couch with the two chairs and leave the TV where it is? I would then look for a drop leaf table for between the chairs that can be used for games or hobbies or what ever. Keep in mind you will need to have the TV near a cable hookup. Moving the couch to float in the middle will make the room smaller. Like Ann suggested you can always move it back. If you move the TV what will you put in that corner?

I had a friend who did what you said and they added a table with shelves behind the couch and decorated it with pictures and seasonal decor.

Your idea will work and when you move your TV opposite the sofa it will open up the space for smooth traffic flow. Try it without the narrow accent table behind the sofa, there's nothing wrong with the back of a sofa. You can prop a beautiful throw blanket, if it won't look too messy, on the back of one end. No need to fill every area of a room with furniture, space things out so the room is balanced.

Your easiest way to figure this out will be to draft the room out on graph paper. Make paper cutouts of the furniture scaled to the same size as your graph paper. This way you can "move furniture" by doing it on paper to see what works.

My only concern would be your end tables with the lamps, Do you have outlets in the floor so you won't be needing extension cords if you put them on the ends of you sofa? Like the idea of a narrow table behind the sofa and/or the idea of the throw over the end. Will you leave the space empty after you move the console? You could tuck one of your lamps and a chair in that corner and leave the other chair in the area of the window. Lots of options and lots of great suggestions above.

Hi there, what you are trying to achieve I have bc my front door opens into my livingroom. So what I wanted to do was create a foyer. So move the sofa as planned. The 2 arm chairs can be placed facing the tv one on ea side of the sofa. Coffee table in front of sofa. End tables beside ea end of sofa. Remember less is more. Also add a tall plant on either side of tv but closer to corners. Hope this helps.

We positioned our sofa so the back runs near the front door. I did that because we didn't have any type of entry. This sections off that area making an enter where you can kick shoes off, hang up jackets, etc.

If you are concerned about the back of the sofa facing the door put something against the sofa's back. Perhaps a bookcase or a dividing screen.

Move the couch so it has it's back to the front door, but not too close, just enough to create a pre-living room space. A beautiful olive wood table behind the couch would add to the texture of the room.

I would purchase a sofa table. They are thin and hide the backs of couches.

  • The nice thing about moving furniture around is that it's easy to do. If you move it and don't like it, you can always move it back. Just live with it for a week or two before deciding.
