Spring Bird Nest DIY

Happy Saturday friends! I have such a fun Spring DIY to share with you today! But first…. did you see the adorable Image On Book Stack tutorial that I shared on Tuesday?! You’ve got to take a peek if you missed it! Those book stacks have been so popular!

So for today's post… now y’all already know I love bird nests right?! If you don’t, you’re about to! HA!

I was part of a fun Easter inspiration round up with some ladies over on Instagram, and I decided to put together a Spring/Easter tablescape using bird nests as my main element. Do you find bird nests fascinating? I think it is so neat how birds can build a nest…so much time, effort, and detail involved!

Anyway….I was out browsing a local antique market a few weeks back and spotted this huge bird nest that I just LOVED! I’d never seen a bird nest quite so big! I knew I could recreate it and make my own so that’s what I did! After I made it, I styled it in a Spring tablescape and I wanted to share the process with y’all!

This particular Spring bird nest DIY is VERY LARGE… it is’t your run of the mill bird nest girls!

You’re not putting a cloche over this one! HA!

How to Decorate with bird nests

You’ll see that I styled it in my Spring table centerpiece, but it would look so pretty hanging anywhere you would hang a wreath! You could hang it on a door, window pane, or an old shutter.

Wouldn’t it be cute hanging on an old garden gate?!?! I have an old garden gate…. I might have to do that!

HOW TO MAKE A DIY BIRD NEST in 5 Steps:

Step 1:

Hot glue with grapevine nest onto the grapevine wreath.

Step 2:

Add stems and branches around the outside of the grapevine wreath, fanning the stems out in the same direction.

Step 3:

Add raffia around the nest. Tie sections of raffia together and work your way around the nest securing it to the wreath with hot glue as you go. Make another pass around the wreath, but don’t tie sections together this time. Make sure you cover the initial knots to hide them.

Step 4:

Fill in the center of the wreath. I started with American Moss, then layered in sphagnum moss before I added in a few feathers.

Step 5:

Paint your paper mache eggs (or use speckled craft eggs) and hot glue them into the center of the nest.

Didn’t this turn out SO CUTE?!

How To Make A DIY Bird Nest, Spring Table Centerpiece Idea with Bird Nest Decor DIY

Spring Table Centerpiece Idea:

I think this bird nest is so unique! I have a round dining table, and I knew this DIY bird nest would be the perfect centerpiece. ( Head over to the blog to shop my home and purchase items like this French Country chandelier.)

I started by spreading out a mauve gauze table runner. Then I used a DIY riser to anchor my centerpiece. I wanted to lift the nest up a bit and angle it so I slipped a few books underneath it and let it rest on its side.

I layered one of my linen ruffle tea towels (shop all of my linen ruffle tea towels here) on top of the riser for softness. And then I tucked in a few more bird nests of varying sizes. I added in a few vintage butter pats and a few of my favorite vintage ironstone sugar and creamer dishes.

For each place setting, I used white wood charges and layered on plates of varying sizes and colors. I added my little bunny napkins and then placed a small nest and white ceramic bird on top of each saucer.

And there you have it! A Spring table idea that is unique and beautiful!

I’d love to hear what you think about this sweet, Spring craft down below! And it we’re not friends over on Facebook or Instagram, what are you waiting for! 😉
