Easy DIY Pedestal Bowl

I love wooden bowls and pedestal stands. I figured why not combine my love for both into one piece! I have actually made various pedestal holders in the past, using different types of materials. That's the great thing about this project! It isn't limited to one type of material.

For this project, I used a glass candle holder, wood bowl, and chalk paint to create a pretty little pedestal!

**Estimated cost is based on what I paid. I had all the supplies on hand before starting.**

I started with these two pieces. I found these both at the thrift store. I loved the shape of this candle holder; and knew I could use chalk paint to give it the color I wanted.

I decided to use an off white paint color for the base of the pedestal. I used House and Canvas paint, in the color Champagne.

Glass can be a little harder to paint, as the coverage can be a little harder to achieve than wood. It took me three coats to cover the glass. I applied it with a small/medium paint brush.

*Don’t Forget to seal your paint! This can be done using various products, such as wax, polycrylic, or polyurethane **

I then used E6000 glue to attach the wood bowl to the top of the candle holder. I find it easier to apply the glue to the rim of the candle holder, rather than directly on the bowl.

The thing I love about this project is, you can really choose any type of base for your piece! I bought a couple different glass candlestick holders in different heights. It will be fun putting all the pedestals together in a vignette style.

One way I found to get the paint to adhere much better when painting glass, is too do a base coat with spray paint. A coat of white or black depending on what color you are painting your object. Typically a coat of white is best because you paint over it with any color. But the spray paint just helps to make your paint adhere and gives it a good base foundation for easier application. A matte white is what I found works best to spray on first.
