Is there anything better than a sliding barn door to finish off a space?

I absolutely love the look of barn doors and got a vision in my head so went with it. A wooden framed door with a plexiglass insert and a curved detail.

Material list:

(1) 1"x12"x8' - top

(1) 1"x16"x8' - bottom

(4) 1"x6"x6' - sides

(2) 1"x3"x6' - middle support

(3) 1"x2"x8' - supports

Curve detail was cut from leftover 12" and 16" pieces.

The finished door size is 39" x 85.25"

I decided to go with pine to build the frame. When choosing wood, always make sure the boards are straight by laying them out and looking down them and at the sides. This will help you when creating your door.

I drew out the design to figure out the size of door I needed.

It was helpful to lay out the wood and visualize the design.

We used glue and brackets to attach the border. Once we cut the border wood, then we had to plan out the spacing for the grids.

We used small brackets to connect the grids or you could use a kreg and do pocket holes.

Next I stained the doors using chestnut minwax gel stain.

The curved detail was added next and stained.

I then used a mix of 50/50 white paint and water to do a light white wash over the stain. Once dry, I gave it a light sanding to get the look I wanted.

We then did a layer of glue on the doors before using the nail gun to secure the two pieces together.

We let it dry overnight before standing it up.

I bought this bar door hardware off of Amazon.

It was so easy to install and worked great with the finished door.

I absolutely love how this door turned out.
