Hi Martha, the type of paint will help keep them the best. I would choose and outdoor oil based paint for ANY outdoor application. I've even used oil based paints on doors and furniture in my home because I know it really holds up the best. If they are already painted you can look into outdoor sealants that go on clear.
Hi Martha
Here is some info for you

Hello. Today I just viewed a YouTube and treat their diy clay sculpture with exterior grade varnish. She tested it with the hose and the spray sealed clay softened ( failed) and with the ornamentthe three coats of the paint on exterior grade varnish sealed the item and water beaded up on it. I imagine wood be in the intended product would work sealing perfectly.

Additionally I have recent experience using exterior grade spar urethane on my diy handcrafted wooden gnome. Less than one year old it weathered through the winter perfectly
There are products, sealers, that are made for outdoor use that will also protect against fading in the sun. I would ask at a local paint store about what's best for your project. However, no matter what you use, wood will eventually take a beating outside.
Hi! Outdoor paints, stains and sealer will protect the most. But, if you leave the wood furniture outside, without protecting it from harsh weather, any finish will have to be redone at some point. Consider covers and/or putting them under cover when not in use. Good luck!
A good marine spar varnish with UV protection will give a good cover for your wood furniture.
Seal it really well and then cover it or move when the weather is not ideal
Seal them with clear sealer
I would make sure it is sealed well and I'd keep it in a shady area as the sun can bleach out the color after awhile
Use an exterior paint, the kind you would use when painting a door or house.

Exterior paint and a quality sealer will go a long way to keep your items looking good.
You’ll need to use a sealer that’s rated for exterior use.
