How do I fix kitchen cabinets in manufactured home

I agree with the first commenter. Cleaning them up with TSP and painting them would surely help a lot before you decide to replace them!

I agree with the two posters above. First give them a very good cleaning and then make the decision after seeing what you have to work with.

Make sure you mark the doors and drawers with a numbering system as well as the spot you remove them from.

Put all hardware and screws in a sealed container so that none gets lost.

Unless you have repairs or a glossy finish, you can clean and then prime & paint.

I'm with the others on this :) Clean them up well, then paint them - it would save you lots of money!

What is lifting off in your pic? On the left side of the right door - is that veneer from the cabinet?

Hi! My experience with mobile home cabinets was that they had been built into the structure of the kitchen, basically coming apart and damaging the wall when removed. They weren't the traditional box that you would buy with a wood frame and well built. Rather there were mostly staples holding them together and a few screws. They weren't real wood either, but a particle board structure with a laminated finish that tended to peel. I made them sturdier with L brackets and painted them. They were much nicer to look at and held up until we sold our rental property. Remove any loose finish, clean and sand. Use a good sealer. Good luck!

I would clean and paint, but if the damage to the paint isn't that bad you can just touch up the needy spots with a paint pen. They make them to match tons of paint cabinet colors.

Painting them would be the cheapest fix. Just make sure you sand, clean and prime them perfectly first.

I can’t tell from the picture, but if these are a particle board product called MDF (medium density fiberboard) if you use any water based cleaners or paint on them, the MDF will suck up the water and “mushroom” and then you’ve got a huge problem- ruined cabinets.

I would also be careful of sanding through the paper thin finish for that same reason.

To seal MDF, I would use an oil based sealer and oil based paint.

Clean with TSP or a good cleaner degreaser like Purple Power. Rinse well, and let dry. The fill in any spots with wood filler. Sand down even with the cabinets. You can then prime and paint them. It is a tedious job and prep is the most important step. If you have a paint sprayer your cabinets will look much better, no roller or brush marks.

Hi. If your cabinets are thermofoil( a veneer on MDF board) and are peeling but still have the veneer under the tape, you can use Dap Rapid Fuse to glue the veneer back on. If the veneer stuff is cracked and chipped near the edges, you can exacto knife off the broken part and paint with a white satin finish paint. There are replacement doors you can buy as well but they are pricey. I used the Rapid fuse on the peeling parts and cut off the cracked parts where gluing wasn’t an option. I repaired all 45 of our drawers and cabinet doors and changed the knobs/ drawer pulls for under $150. It saved thousands of dollars by not having to replace all of the cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Last photo shows a cabinet door where I had to cut off the broken laminate edging and paint the exposed MDF area. The drawer in the photo was one where I glued the edging along the top back down with the Rapid Fuse.

Your least expensive method would be clean with TSP & paint, as many have suggested. I would do one, the worst, and if the results aren't good then you can look into replacing the doors. If there are just a few, perhaps you could just remove them and have open shelving in a section. Rearrange the "good" doors so they are all together.
