I love Vintage Linens and Pin Cushions so I came up with this wonderful Vintage Linen Pin Cushion…a perfect match.

I love vintage linens but hate having them tucked away unseen. Which is why I love using them to make pretty things that are useful and give them new life.

Here’s how to make your own:

Sort through your Vintage Linens. This one was my grandmother’s, she made it, and it has been well loved but tucked away for many years, since it is so fragile. The perfect choice for a new purpose.

Wash, if needed and then iron.

Determine what area you want to use for your pin cushion.

Create a Heart Pattern by folding cardstock in half and drawing half a heart. Cut out. Mine is approximately 5 1/2 inches wide by 5 inches high.

Place Heart Pattern onto Linen for placement. Trace around the heart.

Remove pattern and make sure you like the area chosen. Cut out.

Reace and cut a second heart from an area without embroidery, you want to save that for the front of several more items.

Place the hearts right sides together and stitch around, leaving about a 2 inch opening.

Clip around the heart, this will help the seam lay nice.

Press both sides.

Stuff lightly with Poly-fil as desired.

Stitch the opening closed with a blind stitch.

Now to determine…

To leave the Pin Cushion as is...

To add a bit of the vintage trim from the linen...

Or add some Vintage Buttons, these ones were from my grandmother’s button jar.

I chose to leave it as it was and I love it…There is enough from that Vintage Linen to make several more, I am thinking these are perfect for some nice sentimental gifts.

Designer Tips for making Vintage Linen Pin Cushions:

  • Don’t be afraid to cut into Vintage Linens, make a plan and it will be alright.
  • This is a small project and can be hand stitched if you do not have a sewing machine.
  • Add a bit of your own embroidery if desired.
  • Try to use the best areas of Vintage Linens so the projects done with them will last for years to come.

Now it is time to for you create your own Vintage Linen Pin Cushion.
