Slowly the laundry room is starting to change and I’m so thrilled. Without a doubt, adding the beadboard wainscoting and hooks dramatically improved the space. But today, I’m so delighted to reveal the full wall. Clearly adding a wallpaper accent wall is a game changer for this room.

Now every time I walk past my laundry room, I have to pause and stare at my gorgeous wall! I think I’m going to have to replace the current door with a door with a window. It’s just too pretty to be closed off!

When I started making plans for updating my laundry room, I began looking at wallpaper. I knew that a wallpaper accent wall would definitely add some pizzazz to my room. Perhaps, it would even make doing the laundry fun. 😉 One can hope right?

So I was ecstatic to receive an email from Photowall wallpaper, asking us to try their wallpaper and share the results with our readers.

This post is sponsored by Photowall, however all the comments and opinions are my own.

Also one more item I failed to mention. The wallpaper paste is included with your wallpaper order.

It’s been over 30 years since I have hung wallpaper in my home and I no longer had wallpaper hanging tools.

Therefore I ordered the tool kit from Photowall. It was only $18 and included everything I needed to get professional results.

You will need the following:

  • level
  • pencil
  • cutting blades
  • straight edge
  • smoothing brush
  • seam roller
  • paste brush

Before you hang wallpaper, it’s a good idea to clean and prep the wall for the wallpaper.

First, I fill in holes and imperfections with Drydex nail holes filler. Then sand and make sure the wall is smooth. I also painted my wall. I filled in a lot of holes and wanted to seal the puttied spots.

The wallpaper I chose for my accent wall was a cherry blossom mural. It arrived all in one roll. As you unroll it there are cut lines for each section of the mural.

Each section of the wallpaper mural is numbered for easy hanging.

To begin with you’ll want to mark a level guide line for hanging the first section of wallpaper.

First, I measured at the top of the wall over the width of the wallpaper. Then using a level made a line. This will be the guide that I will line up my first piece of wallpaper to.

You don’t want to start off with the first piece crooked.

For example, if I were to just line up my wallpaper with the corner of the wall, it would have been slightly off level.

With this mind, I have overlapped the top left edge of my wallpaper by 1/8″ on the side wall. Then once the wallpaper is all hung, that overlapped edge is trimmed with the blade.

The Photowall wallpaper comes with a bag of wallpaper paste. You simply mix it with lukewarm water.

Now I have hung wallpaper accent walls many, many times and I have never hung wallpaper this way.

Following the directions that came with my wallpaper mural, I put the wallpaper paste directly on the wall, instead of the wallpaper.

Not only did I find this method easy, but it was a lot less messy.

Once the paste is completely covering the section of wall, align the edge of the wallpaper with the level line.

Then smooth out the wallpaper with the brush.

Next you’ll want to wipe off any paste that gets on the front side of the wallpaper with a damp cloth.

Finally, trim off the excess wallpaper at the top and bottom edges. To do this place a straight edge against the ceiling or baseboard and trim with a sharp blade.

Tip: To make a smooth cut, be sure to keep a sharp blade.

Repeat this process. Align the pattern, smoothing out the paper and trim off the excess at the top and bottom edges.

At each of the seams use a roller to ensure that it adheres well.

As I continued down the wall, I found that my fingernails were another great tool. They worked perfectly to smooth and press the wallpaper up towards the ceiling. This helped prepare the edge for the cut.

This entire process of installing the wallpaper mural accent wall took a little more than an hour and added so much to my room.

Hanging wallpaper may seem intimidating, but it’s really not difficult at all and look at the results! It’s the perfect project for a newbie.

As I said before, I can’t stop staring at my beautiful wallpaper accent wall. It has already transformed my dated and boring laundry room.

Sooo beautiful 💕. So my question is, do you have to soak the wallpaper, or do you apply it to the pasted wall dry?
