Help- what else can I do to this table?

hello all- I got this table- it initally had a laminate top (sort of) and I was going to lightly sand it and use it (wood colored) but it did not come out the way I wanted it so I decided to just paint the piece- I love the bottom and the apron but the top...ugh- not liking the white and brush strokes seen- I polyurethaned it as directed and I am still not liking it........does anyone have any suggestions for the top? is there somewhere I can get a wood top for a resonable price with leaves? can I do anything else with this top? I made it white-ish to lighten up the room as the sun does not get to it..........any help greatly appreciated- I would hate to get rid of this table now...

Could you watch local buy and sell pages and pick up a cheap table with a top you like? Then you could swap it onto your base.

How about tile? You can use the Double Sided Adhesive Tile Mat to set it. It would be durable and not too difficult of a job to do.
problem is that the bases are made for that table.......would be a hard swap
Have you thought of decoupaging the top? You could personalize it with pics or words. Or maybe stenciling a light color design over the work you've already completed?

Agree with Redcatcec my dad had used veneer sheets to cover his kitchen cabinet door fronts. They really did look like new cabinets when he was done.
Love Janice's idea with the stencil in the middle of the table. I thought about a single but large feather in them middle of my dining room table but chickened out (we are native american).

Hi Paula, without seeing it, I would say you can sand the top to get rid of the brush marks and repaint it with chalk paint! It looks wonderful and you can seal it with a matte spray on from Rustoleum.

Because of the style, I don't think it was laminate - veneer maybe? You may be able to re-sand and paint it for a smoother finish. Remember to go from a heavier grit sandpaper to fine. 220 grit is what you need to paint.
Looking at your photos, it was likely veneer and it may have previously been damaged or missing bits. The best way to do this is remove the veneer and replace it as a fresh start. I know it's tricky so you might take it to someone who can do it for you. Otherwise if you keep sanding, you'll go right through the veneer to the base wood which isn't meant to be a finished surface.
Hello. Perhaps re-sanding and attempting another paint finish trial might be suggested. i would not give up yet. If you plan to sand and repaint. Use a foam roller. Smooth finish and no brush marks
