Hi friends!! I hope you’re having a wonderful day!

Having four boys, it seems like it is a constant chore to keep all the backpacks, jackets, and shoes put away, so I decided to give my mudroom a little makeover to add a few more hooks for jackets/backpacks and shelves for shoes.

Here is my mudroom before…

It’s not that I didn’t like my mudroom, I just knew it could be better. And, of course, I LOVE a good DIY project!

I initially thought about just adding a piece of mdf to each side to make the shelf and bench appear as one piece.

I didn’t love it, so I ripped it down, along with the shelf, and started over.

Here is what I used for my inspiration picture…

I started building.

For each side and the shelves, I used 3/4 inch mdf. After I had the sides secured to the walls, I added the shelf, and then added the dividers.

For each divider, I started by securing a 1inch x 2inch piece of wood to the bottom of each piece.

I glued (using liquid nails) and nailed each divider in place. I also secured each divider to the shelf above, using glue and (1 1/2 inch brad) nails.

I trimmed everything out with 1 inch x 2 inch select pine boards, and a simple piece of trim to the front of the shelves.

A little paint, some hooks and baskets

Soon my boys will be home from school, and these hooks will be filled with backpacks and jackets. So far, I’m loving it!

And, HERE for the baskets

Thank you so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a wonderful day!!

I like both. The second is really nice. Was that area a coat closet at one time? Thank you for sharing. Again looks great wonderful job.
