Lets’s make a DIY Fabric Garland for 4th of July. Patriotic crafts are some of my favorites because they can be pulled out and used to decorate for the 4th or July, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Election Season and so much more. This super fun crafty garland can actually be made in any variety of colors and fabrics so is perfect for every single holiday, celebration and room decoration. Personally, I love using felt a a base because it is sturdy and doesn’t fray. Plus, it comes in such a large variety of colors.

SUPPLIES AND MATERIAL NEEDED FOR QUILTED RAINBOW GARLAND

I adore fabric and collect it kind of like a hobby all of its own. It is so fun for projects like this to go to the stash and be able to find so many perfect choices of red, whites and blues to make each piece of the garland pop.

Making the DIY Fabric Garland

Start by cutting out all of the pieces. The garland can be as short or as long as desired, depending on where it is being used as a decoration. The pattern can be modified too to be larger or smaller in piece size — using the setting on your printer when printing the pattern. For each felt piece, a coordinating front piece of fabric will be needed.

Lay your garland out and place the fabric pieces on the felt then pin in place.

Stitch the fabric to the felt using the Zig-Zag stitch on a sewing machine. If sewing is not your gig, Fabri-Fuse glue works to adhere the fabric to the felt too. This is a great alternative if making and creating projects with kids or in a group setting.

Sew the final pieces to a long strand of twine to create the garland, Be sure to have plenty of twine at each end for tying the garland up.

Tie ribbon knots in between the garland pieces for an extra touch of celebration and fun.

My Favorite Sewing Supply List

These are the sewing supplies that I keep on hand at all times. They get used over and over again and again in so many of my projects. For this project I used scissors but could easily have used the rotary cutter too.

This fun project is a great way to create another garland using up scraps.

Using fabric or felt to make placemats is another great idea. These darling patriotic decor placemats are made with felt and can be done without any sewing by using a fabric glue.
