Hello. It may depend on your design aesthetic for an outdoor chair I might consider using the shaped pointy pressure treated fence boards.
For an outdoor look, add lattice to the back. You can get it in wood if you want to stain everything, then use an outdoor sealant. It also comes in plastic in a variety of colors.
Macrame or weave the backs and seats

You could use some fence pickets. Usually you can buy the pickets separately from the fencing.
What about beads strung onto wires and looping them round and round?

Dog-eared fence boards aren’t quite thick enough for a durable outdoor seat.
Exterior grade plywood would be, but you’d want to make sure it drained rain.
This project used pressure treated 2x4 scraps.
The original chairs are going to need to be either primed painted with exterior paint or double coated with exterior polyurethane.
